CURRENT STATUS OF KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDES TOWARD INPATIENT FALL PREVENTION AMONG NURSING STUDENTS AT TAN TRAO UNIVERSITY IN 2025

ABSTRACT
Objective: To describe nursing students’ knowledge and attitudes toward inpatient fall prevention and to identify factors associated with these outcomes at Tan Trao University, Vietnam.
Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted from September to December 2025 among 98 third- and fourth-year nursing students. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire adapted from established instruments assessing fall-prevention knowledge (11 items; score range 0–11) and attitudes (13 items; score range 13–65).
Results: The mean knowledge score was 5.23 ± 2.12, indicating a low level of fall-prevention knowledge. The mean attitude score was 48.90 ± 3.44, reflecting generally positive attitudes toward fall prevention. Students who had witnessed a patient fall had significantly higher knowledge and attitude scores (p < 0.05).
Conclusions: Nursing students at Tan Trao University demonstrated limited knowledge but positive attitudes toward inpatient fall prevention. Exposure to fall events (witnessing a fall) was associated with better knowledge and attitudes, highlighting the need to strengthen fall-prevention content and experiential learning during nursing education.
