Experiential tourism has been emerging as a sustainable development trend across many northern mountainous areas of Vietnam, particularly in Hong Thai Commune, Tuyen Quang Province. The commune is distinguished by its terraced landscapes, Red Dao ethnic villages, and diverse cultural heritage—favorable conditions for developing experiential tourism. This study aims to examine tourists’ demand for experiential tourism activities in Hồng Thái Commune. It explores their level of interest in various experience types, factors influencing their choice of activities, and expectations concerning duration, pricing, and service formats. A combination of fieldwork, questionnaire surveys, and in-depth interviews was employed to collect both quantitative and qualitative data. The findings indicate that tourists visiting Hong Thai prioritize cultural immersion, traditional cuisine, and community-based homestays as means of engaging with the everyday life of local residents. The study contributes to understanding visitor preferences for experiential tourism in ethnic minority areas and suggests strategic directions for developing authentic, community-driven tourism that aligns with the preservation and promotion of Red Dao cultural identity.
